Bowls and new projects.
Getting a collection of wood together for some new bowls and other projects. London Plane, oak, Sycamore, Yew, Maple, Lime.
Starting on the London Plane, using the splitting wedges to cleave this log in half, a lot easier than the bandsaw / chainsaw, and quite satisfying.
Moving the wedges down the log it gradually starts to split it along the grain.
Then suddenly it splits in half along the grain.
Chopping up into sections with the chainsaw.
Rounding up on the bandsaw before putting onto the lathe. The off cuts I’ll try and do some kind of container with.
Roughing into shape on the lathe.
Distinctive grain pattern, sometimes known as lacewood.
This bit of kit allows you to scoop out the centre which gives you another bowl rather than waste it carving it out into shavings.
12 bowls roughed out and a pile of shavings. next stage back on the lathe to turn and carve into the final shapes, and work out a design for the curved off cuts from the bandsaw.
After doing a short welding course at the London Sculpture Workshop in Southwark, I can finally do something with all the bits of metal I’ve been hording.

Some rebar and a bit of round plate I found somewhere.

Welding the legs on with the stick welder. Welds are a bit on the brutal side, bit more practice needed.
After spending a bit to much time playing with the camera and crayons it’s time to get back to the workshop.
A couple of easy pieces to get back in the swing. Some salvaged planks and a couple of days.

A few of old bench planks from the wood pile.

A bench and wall shelving which soon seems to get populated with stuff.

After much head scratching a new site cometh.
